Specifications include, but are not limited to: 2.3.1 Completing Check-Out Application (app)Contractor shall ensure that all information requested on the check-out app is fully completed. 2.3.1.1 Hunter DataContractor shall record the hunter’s hunting license number, name, hunt number, and permit number. 2.3.1.2 Harvest Data Contractor shall record the date of kill, the sex of the animal and the number of antler points on the left and right side of the rack, excluding brow tines. Contractor shall use a ruler to measure the maximum outside antler spread (perpendicular to the head). Contractor shall take a picture of each buck with an antler spread of >25 inches using the digital camera. Pictures will not be posted, but hunters are free to look at the digital photos. Contractor shall record field-age based on wear and replacement of teeth (review jaw board and instructions for aging). Ages are categorized as follows: F = fawn, 1 = yearling or 1.5 years of age, 2 = 2-year old, 3-5 = 3-5 years old, 6-8, 9+. If it is difficult to see the molars, Contractor shall ask the hunter if it is acceptable to cut from a corner of the mouth along the jaw to age the animal. (If a hunter plans to mount the animal, they may not want the hide to be cut.).To determine age distribution, a tooth will be collected from bucks 2 years and older.Contractor shall ask the hunter if it is acceptable to remove one of the two middle incisor teeth from their deer. If permission is obtained, Contractor shall pull a tooth using a knife to loosen the tooth and a screwdriver and/or pliers to remove the tooth. The tooth shall be placed in a tooth envelope. On the tooth envelope, Contractor shall record the hunter’s name, hunt number, permit number, date, and sex of deer. The tooth shall be stored in a plastic bag in the chest freezer on the west side of the check station. Teeth from the same hunt shall be placed in a plastic bag with the hunt number marked on it. Only hunters with permits for Units 12A East and 12A West are required to stop at the check station. However, if 12B, 13A, and 13B hunters stop, Contractor shall request permission to pull a tooth from their bucks. Ages from these deer are important for determining whether the AGFD is meeting Alternative Management Guidelines.Contractor shall use the hoist and a scale to weigh all intact field-dressed yearling bucks to the nearest pound. Yearling bucks should not be weighed if the hide has been removed or the animal has been quartered.
