Mesa Police Department (MPD) and Contractor will co-respond to public safety incidents involving individuals in mental health crises by: Embedding a licensed mental health professional within the MPD and MHST to provide mental health care to individuals with a mental health disorder who enter the criminal justice system at various stages, being holding facility, court system, and post adjudication. Embedding a licensed mental health professional within the MPD MHST to co-respond to calls for police service for individuals in mental health crisis who pose a significant threat to self or to the community; Providing consistent follow-up to individuals with mental health disorders who generate the highest number of calls for police service; Providing stable mental health care to individuals with mental health disorders who generate the highest number of calls for police service; Providing effective strategies for law enforcement to identify and reduce the risk of harm to individuals with mental health disorders and to public safety; Providing interventions that reduce recidivism; Providing effective strategies to expand the use of mental health courts and related services; Decreasing incarceration for individuals with mental health disorders; Decreasing the use of emergency rooms for individuals with frequent contacts with law enforcement during mental health crises; Increasing referrals to appropriate social service agencies for individuals with frequent contact with law enforcement during mental health crises; Providing consistent monitoring of the number of contacts that individuals in mental health crisis have with law enforcement and the justice system; Providing consistent monitoring of the number of contacts of individuals satisfied with the services offered by co-responders.
