Aggregate for select material shall consist of stone, gravel, or other approved inert material of similar characteristics, and shall be clean and free from organic matter and other deleterious substances. The use of volcanic cinders will not be allowed. The select material shall have a plasticity index (PI) of not less than four (4) and not to exceed fifteen (15), and shall conform to the following gradation: Sieve Size Percent Passing 1-1/2" 100 3/4" 90-100 1/2" 65-95 No. 4 33-60 No. 8 21-42 No. 30 8-24 No. 200 6-15 The percentage by weight passing each sieve will be determined in accordance with the requirements of Arizona Test Method 201. The Contractor is responsible for all laboratory tests and certifications to assure that the select material is in conformance to the requirements set forth in these specifications. Representative samples of the select material, taken under the direct supervision of the County, laboratory test results, and certificates of compliance, shall all be submitted to the County. The County may reject delivered select material if, in its opinion, the delivered material differs significantly from the representative sample. All select material is to be approved by the County or his designated representative prior to supply or supply and delivery of material. The select materials shall be secured from the approved source in a uniform and well graded condition and shall be handled in a manner that will secure a uniform and satisfactory select product. The intent is to secure materials that will not require further mixing once delivered. 6. Method of Measurement. Select materials will be measured by the ton or by the cubic yard. A. Select materials to be measured by the ton shall be weighed on approved scales furnished by the bidder or on certified public scales at the bidder's expense. Quantities of delivered material will be determined by the collected weight tickets at the source or the selected delivery location.
