Prevention of SIDS/Safe Sleep Practices Staff implement back to sleep practices and understand actions that may put children at risk. Medication Administration Staff must implement and have extended working knowledge of state requirements as well as Head Start expectations for emergency medication, parent consent, documentation and storage. Building and Physical Premise Safety Staff should understand the implementation of a daily checklist for ensuring health and safety environments. Staff should understand their responsibility in building knowledge in families and students for identification and protection from hazards. Prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome At a minimum, staff must understand the impact of abusive head trauma. Staff must understand developmental expectation and be given tools for supporting behavior. Appropriate Precautions for Transporting Children If applicable, staff must understand and be trained on Head Start expectation to ensure safe transportation of children. Hand Washing Training Children and staff must implement required handwashing technique to ensure healthy environments and limit risk. Teacher 18 contact hours of In-Service Individualized to improve child outcomes and address program goals.
