The study will provide information to better understand travel characteristics and potential roadway and intersection improvements to enhance safety and operations along SR 87 between the Loop 202 (Red Mountain) interchange and Gilbert Road and include McDowell Road from SR 87 to the Loop 101 (Pima) traffic interchange. The study will assist the Salt River PimaMaricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC), the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), and Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) in understanding of transportation needs along this section of SR 87 and McDowell Road. The study will include a strategic implementation plan that prioritizes a phased approach for short-, mid-, and long-term improvements, establishes planning-level cost estimates, and identifies potential funding sources. The plan will serve as a roadmap to address current deficiencies, accommodate projected growth, improve access management, and support the long-term mobility and safety goals of the corridor’s stakeholders.
