Specifications include, but are not limited to: In recognition of co-occurring conditions such as HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) at local, state, and national levels, addressing this “syndemic” has become a priority. Nationally and locally, rates of STDs have increased significantly in the last five years. STDs facilitate HIV transmission and acquisition and are included as part of secondary prevention planning for HIV. Also, it is now recommended that patients testing positive for an STD begin taking pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medications to reduce the risk of contracting HIV resulting from high-risk sexual behavior. In light of the opportunity for integration and improved overall sexual health, the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is seeking to partner with an established, community-based organization who will assist MCDPH in implementing a county-wide initiative to address access to care by expanding testing for Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia. This may include, but is not limited to, systemic issues that limit access to health insurance, poor access to transportation, limited physician office hours that conflict with work and/or school schedules, culturally and linguistically appropriate information, and limited health care resources.
