5.1. The purpose of this RFGA is to support nonprofit organizations throughout the state of Arizona in delivering counseling services specifically for parents who have experienced the loss of a child due to violence. The funding is intended to improve both the accessibility and effectiveness of counseling programs and/ or provide essential emotional and psychological support to parents who have lost a child to violence. This RFGA offers flexibility to the awarded organizations to tailor services to the unique needs of their communities and enhance the overall support available to affected families. 5.1.1. "Parent" means the natural or adoptive parent of a child, the legal guardian of a child, a relative with whom a child resides and who is acting as the parent of that child or a surrogate parent who has been appointed for a child pursuant to ARS section 15-763.01. Parent does not mean this state if the child is a ward of the state. 5.2. The purpose of these counseling services is to help parents develop coping skills, enhance personal knowledge, and discover new solutions to the challenges they face. Community-based services support resilience and assist parents and families in maintaining a positive healing trajectory following the traumatic experience of losing a child to violence. 5.3. Counseling services for parents whose children have died as a result of violence may include: 5.3.1. Individual Therapy: Personalized sessions with licensed therapists to help parents process grief and trauma. 5.3.2. Group Counseling: Support groups that provide a shared space for parents to connect with others who have experienced similar losses. 5.3.3. Family Counseling: Sessions designed to support the entire family unit as they navigate the emotional impact of losing a child. 5.3.4. Crisis Intervention: Immediate support services for parents in acute distress following the violent death of their child. 5.3.5. Trauma-Informed Care: Counseling approaches specifically tailored to address the effects of trauma, ensuring sensitivity to the unique needs of grieving parents. 5.3.6. Bereavement Support: Ongoing counseling and resources to assist parents in coping with their grief over time.
