Specifications include, but are not limited to: 5.1.1. Comprehensive Veterinarian Services Contractor shall examine, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide the necessary veterinary and health care needs for the Police Service Canine(s). Contractor shall have 24-hour Emergency veterinary services available on an as needed basis. Contractor shall prescribe, dispense, and administer prescription medication, and provide the 24-hour emergency veterinary consultation to the Police department unit handlers. Contractor shall provide a list with the current hours of operation (hours of operation and days of the week). Veterinarian services include, but are not limited to, head to toe examinations, blood tests, fecal parasite exams, x-rays, and other tests, surgeries, medication, and euthanasia in accordance with industry standards. Contractor shall perform necessary minor surgery, and suturing at the veterinary clinic Contractor shall perform dental work at the veterinarians’ clinic or assist in its performance elsewhere if a specialist is required. Contractor shall perform major surgery on site at the veterinary clinic or assist in making arrangements for its performance elsewhere. Contractor shall provide spaying and neutering services. Police canine handlers will transport canines to clinics or surgical centers and use restraining devices on canines if necessary. 5.1.2. Medical Charts Contractor shall maintain veterinary charts. Maintain complete veterinary history on canines including treatments, evaluation and prescriptions. 5.1.3. Vaccinations Contractor shall provide yearly vaccinations to include, but not limited to: Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, and Leptospirosis (DA2PPL), Rabies, Leptospirosis, and Bordetella. 5.1.4. Physical Examinations Contractor shall provide routine physical examination for newly purchased canines and pre-purchase exams on new canine candidates under review. Canines shall receive the following during the first routine annual examination: Physical Examination Heartworm Antigen Test Vaccinations Fecal flotation for parasite identification Complete blood count Blood chemistry panel Urinalysis Dental propyl (if needed) Electrocardiogram (if canine is 8 years or older) Thyroid Panel (if canine is 8 years or older)
