Specifications include, but are not limited to: Grantee shall: 3.1 Be a nonprofit organization that is exempt from taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. 3.2 Have provided American civics education and leadership development training to students who are at least ten years of age for at least five (5) years. 3.3 Complete the application in which they must include the following information including proof of 3.1 and 3.2: 3.3.1 Applicants must submit a copy of the curriculum and all course materials used for civics education and leadership. 3.3.2 Applicants must determine expected outcomes including: a. Expected number of students served by the program. b. Identify the areas that will be served by the program (i.e. urban, suburban, rural, Indigenous). c. What are the program’s intended short-term, intermediate, and long-term outcomes? d. What occurs between your activities and the point at which you see these ultimate outcomes (shortterm and intermediate)? 3.3.3 Applicants submit their financial request (up to $300,000) with a proposed budget. SB 1054 (E) determines how grant funds may be used including the following: a. Stipends for civic leaders and counselors b. Wages for staff c. Educational materials d. Food/beverages e. Clothing f. Transportation 3.4 Advance the principles of a democratic republic through multigenerational civics education, civil discourse and civic engagement. 3.5 Provide American civics education and leadership development to middle and high school students through afterschool programs and meet the following requirements. 3.5.1. Promote civil service and civic engagement. 3.5.2. Prepare students for the duties of citizenship. 3.5.3. Provide opportunities to identify and debate issues relating to a democratic republic. 3.5.4. Include education or training on any of the following: a. The history of the United States of America, the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. b. The Declaration of Independence. c. The composition and roles of the branches of local, state and federal government. d. The roles and responsibilities of citizens in a democratic republic, including the importance of civil discourse. e. The positive benefits for citizens in a democratic republic in contrast to other forms of government.
