Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is requesting bids from qualified contractors to construct repairs to the ice rink roofs at Willow and Talkeetna locations per the engineer’s drawings. The work includes structural repairs, including beam and purlin replacements, as well as metal roofing repairs, are required at the Willow Ice Rink, while the Talkeetna Ice Rink necessitates the replacement of Z-purlins with C-channel members, repairs/replacements of flashing and sheeting, and the addition of a steel girt for reinforcement. The lower shed roof area at the cantilever overhang has suffered structural damage of these beams, purlins and metal roofing. The beams will be replaced with larger members (using existing column bolt hole locations - field verify) , the Zshaped purlins will be replaced with C- channel members, and the damaged metal roofing will be cut back about 10 feet from the eave and replaced on a purlin tucked under the existing sheeting and refastened. Roof sheeting will be required to be matched in color, pattern, and gage thickness. The new channel purlins will be field welded to the new cantilever beams and each set of members jointed with a side plate bolted to each member where they join together on the beam. (This summary is a high-level explanation of the work effort and is not intended to be all inclusive of the work necessary to complete the repairs. Contractors will perform a field visit to verify the work to prepare a bid). Talkeetna Ice Rink location- summary: The lower eave has been damaged by the snow load with the crushing of the Z- purlin at the eave column line. This purlin crushing at the column line has wrinkled the apron metal sheeting, damaged the eave flashing, and bent portions of the roof sheeting. The snow shedding (which curls off the roof and forms a ‘C’ shape) pushes on the lower apron. The repairs amount to the replacement of the Z-purlin with a C-channel member all along the eave. The flashing and sheeting are to be repaired or replaced as field verified. The apron below will have a steel girt added between the columns to stiffen the apron and prevent future damage to the apron. The C-channel is welded to the column top, and the mid span apron dirt is welded to the columns. The contractor will verify the sheeting damage repairs / replacement. (This summary is a high level explanation of the work effort and is not intended to be all inclusive of the work necessary to complete the repairs. Contractors will perform a field visit to verify the work to prepare a bid).
