The Quartz Creek to Anchorage 115kV Transmission line was built in 1962 using wood H-frame construction, 556 kcmil, ACSR “Dove” conductor and insulated to 115kV. Many of the structures have reached the end of their service life. Approximately 3 miles of transmission line will be re-built through this project. The existing transmission line structures, conductors, guys and anchors will be retired, and replaced with new structures, conductor, guys and anchors, and installation of all dielectric self supporting (ADSS) fiber optic communication cable. The re-built line will be constructed using a combination of steel and wood H-frame construction. The re-built line section will use 795 kcmil, ACSR “Drake” conductor insulated to 230kV. The transmission line work begins at existing structure 23-8 to existing structure 25-7 and the replacement of Girdwood Tap. It also includes adding the ADSS cable between existing Structures 25-7 and 27-3.
