The Etolin Heights Hot Water Heater Replacement Project at 730 Zimovia Highway in Wrangell, Alaska includes removing and replacing four existing indirect hot water heaters—one of which was installed in 2024 and must be removed, preserved, and delivered to Alaska Air Cargo for shipment to AHFC Anchorage to support full equipment standardization. The contractor shall furnish and install four new IBC IWT-119 MAX indirect water heaters, or an approved equivalent, ensuring all installed heaters are dip-tube-free designs with low-mounted cold-water inlets. Work includes installing new low-point drains on domestic and boiler piping, unions on all piping to allow full heater removal, and shut-off valves on the system side of the piping—reusing existing valves where functional—to provide complete isolation of each water heater; installing new PRVs (pressure relief valves) on all four new units; installing a new pressure tank and adding a shut-off valve between the system piping and the pressure tank if one does not already exist; providing new pipe insulation on all new piping labeled clearly with domestic/boiler hot/cold and direction of flow per AHFC standards; replacing or installing seismic earthquake straps; and installing both a new auto-vent and a shut-off valve between the system piping and the auto-vent to allow isolation and service without draining the system. All existing mixing valves shall be inspected, function-tested, and adjusted as needed to maintain a consistent 120°F supply temperature at fixtures. The contractor shall remove and dispose of three older water heaters, and shall transport only the removed 2024 unit and the existing AHFC spare shelf-stock unit to Alaska Air Cargo for shipment to the AHFC Anchorage warehouse. The contractor is responsible for arranging shipment of these two units as freight collect to AHFC Anchorage, where AHFC will receive them upon arrival.
