Description

The Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission DBA U.S. Space & Rocket Center seeks sealed bids for the painting of the Ceilings in the following Museum areas.

Crew Galley
Red Tile Area
Planetarium

Museum Interior Paint Specifications for the Crew Galley, Red Tile Area, and the Planetarium are as follows.
Paint Colors: PNT-1: Interior Flat Black
Paint Locations: PNT-1 will be ceiling color for all Museum ceilings.

The Museum will receive paint on the ceiling of the galley of approximately 8256 SqFt.
The Red Tile Area will receive paint on the ceiling of approximately 2900 SqFt.
The Planetarium ceiling will receive paint on the ceiling of approximately 2500 SqFt.

General Specifications

It is the intention of these specifications to have all existing ceiling painted surfaces striped, primed, and repainted. All paint shall be applied to the manufacturer’s recommended mil thickness per coat. In any case, the application shall be sufficiently heavy to achieve pleasingly uniform color and lucid effect.
All paints shall be delivered to the job mixed and shall not be thinned on the job.
Contractors shall furnish all labor, materials, tools, and equipment necessary.
All paint shall be applied by brush, roller, or dry fall except where other applications are permitted in writing by owner.
All articles affixed to buildings, such as hardware and light fixtures removed by the painting contractor, shall be replaced after completing painting of that area. All electrical devices plates shall be removed, stored carefully, and replaced after the paint has dried. It shall be the responsibility of the painting contractor to record any area that was identified during the project walk- through as NOT TO BE PAINTED.
The colors have been selected by the USSRC and are referenced above. An interior flat black paint will be used in all three museum areas to be painted.
Crew Galley I-Beams may be painted.
It shall be the responsibility of the contractor to provide approved storage for materials and equipment at a location approved by Owner.
All staging, scaffolds, ladders, etc. shall be maintained at all times in a manner to meet OSHA Safety requirements and not be a hazard to USSRC personnel or the general public. Adequate exits from all buildings shall be maintained in all areas to meet Fire Marshal’s regulations. A safety plan must be submitted to USSRC safety team regarding methods for scaffolding for ceiling painting.
All non-painted areas, such as scrubs, floors, glass, etc. shall be protected. Upon completion of work, the contractor shall remove all splattering and remove all paint-related rubbish from the premises. The paint contractor shall be held responsible for any related damage.
The paint contractor shall supply one (5) gallons of each paint applied for each job site. The paint shall be in new unopened containers, identified by brand, color and formula for Owner’s future use. The painting contractor shall also supply USSRC Close out Documents listing all final applied paint colors (including formulas) paint manufacturer’s warranty, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) sheets and product specification sheets for all products actually used for each job site.

The contractor shall warranty the finished product free from defects, chipping, and fading for one year.
Interior Painting Detail
1. Check all ceilings for loose paint or caulking. Clean with a wire brush or dry ice. Spot prime with block filler, if necessary. Strain all paint material from original containers and restrain all material left over from previous day.
2. If necessary, neatly cut-in around all graphics/signage that will remain to create appearance that no painting has been done.
3. In the galley, we will be working around Space Camp attendees and will require detailed coordination with the owner to deconflict attendee schedules. The Galley ceiling must be painted from 3 – 23 September 2023. The contractor must be able to work within this rigid and specified work times schedule. The possibility exists to section off portions of the galley to phase the work around operational timelines.
4. The hanging planetarium artwork shall be removed by the owner before the painting of the planetarium ceiling.

A Mandatory Prebid meeting being held on Thursday July 27th, 2023, at 2:00PM CST in room 109 of the ETF Bldg. located at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, 1 Tranquility Base, Huntsville, Al 35805

Bids must be submitted on DCM C-3 Bid Proposal forms. Additional documentation includes DCM C-4 Bid Bond, C-3A Acct Sales Tax, Certificate of Insurance, E-Verify, Al Vendor Disclosure statement, Al GC License, and company W9 form. All bidders bidding in amounts exceeding that established by the State Licensing Board for General Contractors must be licensed under the provisions of Title 34, Chapter 8, Code of Alabama, 1975, and must show evidence of license before bidding or bid will not be received or considered by the Owner. The bidder shall show such evidence by clearly displaying his or her current license number on the outside of the sealed envelope in which the proposal is delivered. The Owner reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and to waive technical errors if, in the Owner’s judgement, the best interests of the Owner will thereby be promoted.

Sealed proposals will be received by the Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission d/b/a U.S. Space and Rocket Center at the office of Sam Mitchell, Director of Procurement, U.S. Space and Rocket Center, at the ETF Building Room #109, One Tranquility Base, Huntsville, Al 35805 until Tuesday August 8th, 2023, at 2:00pm CST. At which time and place, each seal bid will be publicly opened and read into the record.
