Specifications include, but are not limited to: 2.1 Domestic Aluminum, 5052 – H38 Alloy 2.2 Sign Blank 0.080” gauge plus or minus 5% OR 0.063” gauge plus or minus 5% as specified on the pricing sheet and at time of order. 2.3 Blank shall be unpainted, degreased, and etched with Alodine 1200E process. All burrs and sharp or rough edges shall be removed. 2.4 These blanks shall meet the outside given dimensions within 1/8” and shall have rounded corners of a dimension that meets the standards of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. 2.5 These blanks shall not have or show any seam joints, creases, ripples, beads, or warp when placed flat on a smooth level surface, and there shall not be any bow or gap greater than 1/8”. 2.6 Signs shall have standard punching 3.1 Sign faces shall be manufactured with 3M High Intensity Pressure Sensitive Prismatic Sheeting, (ALDOT Type III Sheeting) or approved EQUAL. City of Huntsville will be final determining factor of all OR EQUAL submittals. Samples will be required of all materials that are not 3M High Intensity Prismatic Sheeting. 3.2 Sign faces shall be standard size and shape per MUTCD 4.1 Aluminum sign blanks and aluminum sheets shall be in accordance with the current Alabama standard specifications and applicable special provisions adopted by ALDOT and for aluminum panel material, ASTM B-209 ALLOY 5052-H38 OR 6061-56. Both sides of the sign blanks shall be free from identification markings. The blanks and sheets shall have a conversion coating using alodine process in accordance with spec. 4, as revised; or oakite process in accordance with A.S.T.M. B449 class 2; or an approved equal. Signs are NOT to be made of aluminum composite materials Alpolic 350. 4.2 Both sides of metal shall be baked enamel black in color. 4.3 Metal thickness shall be 0.63 inches. 4.4 For microprismatic roll up sign specifications and sampling requirement, see MBS 2006-01.
