The Alabama Forestry Commission's Urban and Community Forestry Program is requesting a bid through State Purchasing for the purchase of at least 80,400 tree seedlings as listed on the attached Table A. Contractor will provide all labor, supervision, seed materials, supplies, and equipment necessary to furnish and deliver the seedlings. A total cost bid is required. No subcontracting permitted 1. All seedlings must meet the following specifications: a. Bareroot seedlings must meet applicable specifications from the American Standard for Nursery Stock (ANSI Z60.1-2014), and most particularly the criteria located in Section 11: Seedling Trees and Shrubs. Seedling caliper shall govern and there is a requirement of a minimum root collar diameter caliper measurement of 1/8 inches (~3.175mm) for 18-inch-tall seedlings and 3/32 (~2.381mm) inches for 12-inch-tall seedlings. b. In addition to the ANSI Z60.1-2014 standards, the average diameter must be greater than 0.15748 inches (1/6.35 inches or 4mm). Maximum height acceptable is 30 inches (30” or 76.2 cm) as measured from root collar to top bud, and the minimum height is 12 inches (12" or 30 cm). C. Seedlings must be live, ready for planting with moist roots, and be free of insect and disease problems, nutrient deficiency, and have no mechanical damage detectable by visual inspections. A welldeveloped root system, with a minimum of 4, first-order lateral roots greater than 0.04 inches (1 mm) diameter at the junction with the taproot should be evident on most seedlings. Root length must be between 5 and 6 inches.
