The department is accepting bids to install a new power pole and meter box and connect power to the new air monitoring shelter at the Helena site. The old pole must be removed and a new power service pole and breaker box, including grounding rod must be installed and connected to the new shelter via an underground conduit. Power is supplied to the site by Alabama Power. ADEM Site contact Tobey Mallory (334-314-4507) will meet at a convenient time for both parties to confirm pole placement. All work must be completed by January 9, 2026. Bid must include the following: Phase 1 Removal of old pole Removal of existing service power pole and meter box from site. Power service is live and will need to be moved to newly installed pole (Phase 2). Phase 2 Installation of new pole Install new service pole, new meter box, new breaker panel and new grounding rod near the new shelter. Phase 3 Connecting service pole to air monitoring shelter. Trench/Bury conduit and pull wire from new pole, use applicable wire gauge that meets all NEC electrical codes for application and distance. Depending on pole placement, distance should be less than 15 ft. Shelter is pre-wired with NEC compliant 100A 120/240V 1PH electrical system. This bid is limited to connecting the electricity from the power pole to the existing shelter electrical box (see diagram of box), no electrical work required inside shelter.
