3 – Equipment Requirements 3.1 – Ethernet Cable 1. Category 6A ethernet cable for all drops 2. The District would prefer cable to be color-coded: a. Blue – wall drops/other data drops b. Yellow – access points c. White – cameras d. Purple – door access controls e. If unable to meet the color preferences, please detail why in your bid response. 3. The vendor should provide patch cables. 4. All patch cables should be Category 6A and 1-foot in length, color coded as described above. 5. Existing ethernet cabling runs to office spaces, classrooms, hallways, maintenance rooms, etc. a. Access points should be removed temporarily and the cables removed from the above-ceiling areas. b. Some existing ethernet cabling may be required to be left as-is; these will be identified by the District Technology Coordinator. c. Some existing ethernet cabling may require terminating in the network cabinets; these will be identified by the District Technology Coordinator. i. All cabling, whether new or designated existing to remain, should be terminated in the newly upgraded cabinets and patch panels. 6. Each ethernet cable installed should have a 10-foot service loop provided above the ceiling on the wall/drop-terminating end and enough service loop on the cabinet end for maintenance if needed. 7. Ethernet drops should be installed in pairs of two (2). Some places in the building may require more. 8. Flush-mount boxes are preferred, but in areas where cable cannot be recessed, a surface-mount box is allowable. a. The District would prefer surface-mount boxes to be uniform in color and style. b. The District would prefer the surface-mount boxes to be a sturdy metal box. c. Faceplates for both types of boxes should be sturdy metal/stainless steel. 9. At no point should an ethernet drop be used to “daisy-chain” another ethernet drop.
