Specifications include, but are not limited to: Portage County has an intergovernmental agreement with the Department of Corrections for offenders under DOC community supervision to receive residential and non-residential (outpatient) Community and Residential Program (CRP) services and residential halfway house (HWH) services at Portage House. The CRP and HWH services are provided to male correctional clients, who are medium to high risk for recidivism, as referred by agents of the Division of Community Corrections (DCC). Portage house provides an environment that includes support and supervision for the residential and non-residential services such as case management services; mentoring; cognitive behavioral programming; substance abuse assessment, treatment and relapse planning; anger management services; group and individual counseling; independent and basic living skills training; employment readiness training/coaching; assistance with job and school placement; and recreational/community activities. The CRP group and individual services are intended to address problems with substance abuse, anger management, interpersonal communication, childhood trauma, living skills, and other areas that may contribute to ongoing involvement with the legal system. At any one time, Portage House can serve up to 21 correctional clients by providing residential services for 12 clients and non-residential (out-patient) services for 9 clients. An offender’s length of stay at Portage house typically ranges from 90 to 120 days.
