Specifications include, but are not limited to: We understand the goal of the project is to construct two new combination skeet and trap fields, adjacent to the old air strip and approximately half way between the Fire Academy and the Arena. The placement of these fields is to avoid having the shotfall zone overlap any body of water or other sensitive area that may be damaged from lead shot. The goal of the project also includes the construction of a new rifle range. This range will be located at the former caretaker’s cottage site, which has a natural “bowl” topography that will allow shooting into the existing hillside at the 100-yard target distance. No planning for lead management is included in our scope of services, and WVU is expected to conduct operation of these shooting sport fields and range in accordance with the US Environmental Protection Agency’s document EPA-902-B-01-001, Best Management Practices for Lead at Outdoor Shooting Ranges, and will follow the recommendations of the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council’s (ITRC) Guidance for Environmental Management at Operating Outdoor Small Arms Firing Ranges. Further, no impact studies of acoustical energy on surrounding properties is to be conducted by our team.
