Ballard-Interbay is a dynamic area of Seattle defined by increasing employment growth, maritime and industrial land uses, local and regional freight needs, and an evolving transportation system that includes three upcoming ST3 light rail stations. This project is primarily a technical transportation study that will be developed in collaboration with a variety of agencies, elected officials, and community partners, to address the region’s future needs for a reliable, well-functioning, transportation system for all modes. In analyzing future transportation demand for the Ballard-Interbay area, the project will take into consideration future residential growth in nearby neighborhoods and additional employment at sites such as the Armory, Expedia and the Port of Seattle’s Terminal 91. The study will result in a report to the Washington legislature with recommendations on future multimodal transportation improvements and a timeline for replacing the Ballard and Magnolia bridges. The study’s report may guide future policy decisions and infrastructure investments by the City of Seattle and the State of Washington.
