Specifications include, but are not limited to: Mulch/masticate trees and shrubs within target habitats, primarily targeting invasive species (e.g., autumn olive), as well as some fast-growing native trees (e.g., red maple) in order to release focal tree species (e.g., oaks),while making all attempts to avoid damaging desirable native hardwood tree species. DCR will demarcate work area boundaries with blue flagging. A DCR representative will remain on-site during mulching/mastication work to monitor progress, ensure compliance and adjust work area boundaries if necessary. DCR will provide tract location maps, work area boundary maps and specifications for the mulching/mastication work. Contractor will coordinate the work start date with DCR, and shall not initiate work until authorized to do so by the Shenandoah Valley Region (SVR) Steward or other authorized DCR representative. The Contractor, employees, and sub-contractors will be subject to All Virginia laws pertaining to Natural Area Preserves and State Parks. The Contractor shall coordinate all mulching/mastication activities with designated DCR-NH staff. The Commonwealth will make every attempt to provide reasonable notice to the Contractor of any scheduled special events.
