Specifications include, but are not limited to: George Mason University seeks to establish a partnership with one or more mobile bike shops to provide on-site bicycle repair, maintenance (1-4 times per month depending upon demand) and biking-related classes to Mason students, faculty, and staff on a regular basis to be available at the Arlington, Fairfax, and SciTech campuses. The Contractor shall provide simple to complex bike repairs, shall be responsible for scheduling service appointments and receiving payment directly from the individual for services performed. Biking related classes will address a range of topics to be scheduled monthly during the academic year including, but not limited to bike maintenance and safe bicycle riding. Contractor will also be available to participate in relevant events such as Bike to Mason Days at the Arlington, Fairfax, and SciTech campuses. Contractor must have the ability to do the following: 1. Bring the bike shop to each campus (Arlington, Fairfax, and SciTech) – such as a mobile vehicle or a tent on a scheduled basis, 1 to 4 times per month depending upon demand with a minimum visit of 4 hours. 2. Have needed parts/service available on demand for Mason cyclists including but not limited to: a. Tire inflation/replacement b. Lubrication c. Brake pad replacement d. Chain installation e. Cable replacement f. Derailleur adjustments g. Bike safety checks 3. Schedule appointments and accept payment for services rendered independent of the University financial system. 4. Provide semi-annual and “as needed” maintenance to Mason-owned bikes on campus (e.g. bike programs sponsored by the University to include but not limited to – Bike Check-Out Program (20 bikes), and planned Bike Rental Program (15 bikes). Conduct monthly checks of the fleet including, but not limited to tire pressure, brakes, chains/cranks (ABC). 5. Provide annual and as needed maintenance to the Mason Outdoor Adventure Program’s 8-10 bikes. 6. Provide biking classes at least monthly on an array of topics potentially including: a. How to ride a bike b. Basic bike maintenance c. Biking safely d. Commuting by bike 7. Willingness to answer questions about bikes and biking as posed by students, faculty, and staff in classes or during maintenance.
