Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. The contractor will visit and survey each site prior to installation. The contractor must make contact with a representative of the entity making application for the new dry hydrant at least 24 hours prior to the beginning of the installation. Any anticipated problems with the quality of the site or installation will be reported to the VA Department of Forestry in writing. The VA Department of Forestry reserves the right to cancel the site and select another in the same area prior to installation. 2. The VA Department of Forestry will provide the contractor with an approved list of site locations from information provided in the grant request, including the fire department contact person. This same information will also be provided for dry hydrant repair request. The individual fire department must secure documented permission from the landowner for the installation and provide all the necessary local permits. Copies of this information will be provided the contractor prior to the site visit. Sites will be free from large trees (greater than 4” at ground level) as well as any fencing that will hinder installation. On completion of each new installation site, the contractor will submit an “installation report”. This report must include an area map, site layout – including the latitude and longitude of the hydrant head, piping schematic, materials list, photo log of the installation and photo of the completed installation. On completion of a dry hydrant repair, the contractor will submit the same information as with new installation, minus the area map.
