Specifications include, but are not limited to: •Boarding for all shelter animals up to 30 days. The City may require extension of the boarding time for extenuating services. •Basic care for all shelter animals to include feeding, cleaning, watering, and walking•Emergency and supportive care during required holding period for all shelter animals during required holding period.oStray animals (no identification): Five days for animals that do not have any form of identificationoStray animals (with identification): Ten days for animals with identificationoSeized or confiscated animals: Dependent on final adjudication of any pending court cases•Diagnostics, lab work, or other treatments deemed medically necessary for shelter animals eligible for adoption.•General health assessments for all animals brought to the shelter by the City of Fairfax Police Department.•Euthanasia•Disposal of animals oEuthanized by the City of Fairfax Police DepartmentoAnimals picked up by an Animal Control OfficeroDeceased animals for which rabies testing is necessaryoDeceased domestic animals when owner cannot be locatedoShelter animals that die in custody•Assessment of sick or injured wildlife to include assessment to determine if animal is suitable for wildlife rehabilitation or possible euthanasia.•Consultation regarding appropriateness for adoption or other action.•Vaccinations for dogs (adult, puppies), cats (adult, kittens)•Flea and tick preventative treatments (adult, puppies), cats (adult, kittens)•Other: Heartworm, fecal check and deworming, feline leukemia and FIV, as appropriate•Spaying and neutering for adopted animals•Other customary services•Veterinary services for Police K-9 as needed.
