Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of Burlington is planning to address the corrosion issue of the existing steel beams and improve the existing drainage pattern to prevent future corrosion of Rock Point Bridge. The City is planning to rehabilitate the structure by adding new steel beams between each existing beam. Concrete curbs will be constructed on each side of the bridge to prevent future runoff onto the steel beams. Additionally, existing paint will be removed and the beams will be repainted. There is also a safety concern with the pedestrian railings along the bridge and the guardrail approach sections. The existing pipe rail along the bridge will be modified to meet code requirements. The guardrail approaches will be replaced with crashworthy guardrails. The waterline attached to the bridge needs to be rehabilitated and/or insulated. The concrete deck is in good condition. Core sampling of the deck shows minimal section loss due to salt penetration.
