Specifications include, but are not limited to: construct 68,640 feet (13 miles) of four-strand barbed wire fence with cedar post bracing; The rangeland fence will be constructed of barbwire, using a cedar post between every 3rd steel post, including the installation of wire gates, double H-braces, and corner braces. All cedar posts, steel t-posts, etc. shall be set plumb (vertical), in complete straight alignment with fence lines, dirt packed solid around posts and be sturdy. Cedar posts must be buried a minimum of 30” inches below ground level and dirt packed and tamped hard around the posts. The tops of cedar posts shall be cut off so they are 46-48” inches above ground level. Steel T-posts shall be pounded into the ground a minimum of 18” with the spade completely buried. Steel T-posts shall be uniform height through-out the fence (i.e., pound all steel T-posts in to the same height). Cedar and steel T-post spacing shall be a maximum of 16’6” feet. They may be closer depending on ground conditions, terrain, corner braces, gates, etc. In no locations shall there be posts spaced more than 16’6” feet apart. Barbed wire spacing shall be measured perpendicular to the ground and wire spacing will be 16 inches, 8 inches, 8 inches, and 10 inches from the ground up. The top height of all barbed wire shall not be higher than 42 inches above the ground. Barbed wire must be stretched tight with similar tension on all 4 strands. The barbed wire shall not sag or be loose in any areas. Do not twist or bend barbed wire between posts to tighten strands. Barbed wire shall be stapled to wood posts. Staples shall not be driven in tight such that they bend or pinch the barbed wire. Double H-braces: These braces consist of 3 cedar posts spaced ~6’ apart with 2 wood or cedar post horizontal braces placed between notched posts at 42” maximum height with an X-style twisted tight, barbwire tie between two wood posts. The X wire tie shall be crossed above and below the horizontal brace such that the wire holds the horizontal brace in place when twisted tight. Horizontal braces shall be nailed to posts. H-braces shall be vertical, sturdy, dirt packed solid and in straight alignment with the fence on each side.
