Specifications include, but are not limited to: Work Sequence: Cutting and lop & scatter shall be performed in an organized and systematic manner as determined in the prework conference. Cutting with scattered crews within or between project areas shall not be permitted except where authorized by the COR. Slashing: All green and dead target trees up to 24 inches diameter measured one foot above the soil on the uphill side with the largest bole on the tree within the project boundaries shall be completely severed from the stump(s). This includes trees less than 1 inch in diameter or 3 feet in height. No live or dead limbs shall be left on the stump of cut trees. Stump height shall not exceed 6 inches measured on the uphill side. All main branches or stems shall be cut from the trunk of the tree. c. Bucking: All slash shall be bucked or cut into lengths not to exceed 6 feet in length. Lop & Scatter:The material to be treated consists of down woody material created from the slashing treatment and existing dead and down material. Lop and scatter all existing slash so that all top and side branches are free of the central stem and so that the slash is reduced to within 18 inches of the ground at all points. Central stem length shall not exceed 6 feet. Slash shall not be located within 10 feet of the unit boundary or road/trail and 10 feet of a leave tree/island. The near edge of any slash shall be at least 10 feet from the edge of any unit boundary, road or other physical improvement (such as fence or cattleguard). e. Leave Trees: Scattered leave islands of trees may be identified by the COR to be established as part of the treatment prescription and will not be flagged. In addition, all vegetation not identified as target trees above shall be designated as leave trees.
