Specifications include, but are not limited to: The addition will include approximately 35,000 GSF spread over 5 floorplates of ~7,000 GSF each. 8,000 GSF of the 35,000 GSF building will be shell space for future needs. The addition must allow for a future second phase in order to maximize the site capacity and provide an additional 65,000 GSF. The addition will include dry labs, offices for faculty, shared graduate student spaces, and conference areas arranged and configured to encourage collaboration. Lab spaces will be primarily interview rooms and individual ‘running rooms’ for research with human subjects. These may have equipment that is sensitive to light, sound, and vibration. Labs will also include basic intake rooms for taking and storing blood and other biological samples. There will be no heavy wet lab or animal space. Shell space will be limited to the same sort of future uses. The primary entry to the addition will serve as a greeting and waiting area for research subjects who may also be experiencing symptoms of mental disorders. It should be attractive, accessible, and nonthreatening. The design must consider the occupied adjacent building in order to minimize disruptions to ongoing research and other functions. Coordination with the City of Austin for work within the right of way is required.
