Specifications include, but are not limited to: The individual or firm acting as the City Attorney will provide contract legal services to the City for all regular council meetings and any special meetings deemed necessary by the Mayor or City Manager. The ideal candidate will have experience in municipal law, real estate and land use law, planning and zoning, environmental law, and engineering processes. The ideal candidate will possess versatility, flexibility, and adaptability. Services include providing quality legal advice to the City Council, City Manager, and City Secretary. Documents drafted and/or reviewed by the city Attorney are expected to be signed by the same, approving form and legality. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: Perform legal research and present advice, information, and recommendations to the City Council, City Manager, and City Secretary. Prepare, review, and analyze contracts, agreements, policies, and other legal documents. Represent the City in legal negotiations according to City policy guidelines and applicable law. Recommend changes in policies and procedures in order to meet legal requirements. Prepare legal instruments for boards and commissions, City Manager, City Secretary, and City Council. Represent the City in lawsuits instigated by or against the City, overseeing and working with special counsel who may be retained by the City when particular experience and/or special qualifications are needed. Prosecution in the Municipal Court in NOT included in the services to be rendered. However, the ideal candidate may be requested to serve as back-up prosecutor from time to time.
