Specifications include, but are not limited to: 14 COAT To avoid liability and interface problems, coats and pants shall be procured from the same manufacturer. 14.1 COMPOSITE MATERIALS The Airport has determined the ONLY acceptable combination of materials. Any substitution of materials shall be grounds for immediate disqualification of bid without further consideration. 14.2 OUTER SHELL Safety Components PBI MAX 7.0 (Gold) - is composed of 70% PBI/DuPont Kevlar® spun yarns and 30% 600 denier DuPont Kevlar that is a flexible fabric woven with filament and spun yarns in an exclusive twill weave design. 14.3 THERMAL LINER Safety Components 7.4 oz. Glide Ice 2-Layer - quilted to two layers of DuPont Nomex® E89 spun lace – 2.3 ounces per square yard (opsy) and 1.5 opsy. 14.4 MOISTURE BARRIER Stedfast STEDAIR 4000 – a Nomex® IIIA woven substrate laminated to a breathable ePTFE membrane with a nominal weight of 5.0 opsy. 14.5 DESIGN CONCEPT (STYLING) The standard coat design shall be of a 3-panel, consisting of two front panels and one back panel. The body panels shall be shaped to provide a tailored fit thereby enhancing body movement and shall be joined together by double stitching with Nomex® thread or equal. Each coat length shall be determined by each individual’s torso length to provide the coat-to-pants interface as defined by NFPA 1500. 15 PANTS To avoid liability and interface problems, coats and pants shall be procured from the same manufacturer. 15.1 COMPOSITE MATERIALS The Airport has determined the ONLY acceptable combination of materials. Any substitution of materials shall be grounds for immediate disqualification of bid without further consideration. 15.2 OUTER SHELL Safety Components PBI MAX 7.0 (Gold) - is composed of 70% PBI/DuPont Kevlar spun yarns and 30% 600 denier DuPont Kevlar that is a flexible fabric woven with filament and spun yarns in an exclusive twill weave design. 15.3 THERMAL LINER Safety Components 7.4 oz. Glide Ice 2-Layer - quilted to 2 layers of DuPont Nomex® E89 spun lace – 2.3 opsy and 1.5 opsy. 15.4 MOISTURE BARRIER Stedfast STEDAIR 4000 – a Nomex® IIIA woven substrate laminated to a breathable ePTFE membrane with a nominal weight of 5.0 opsy. 15.5 DESIGN CONCEPT (STYLING) The pants shall be of a traditional waist-high-only design to facilitate full torso ventilation of front, rear and sides of trunk for maximum body cooling effect to help minimize firefighter heat stress. For this reason, other than waist-high pants shall not be considered acceptable or equal, since additional trunk wrapping traps heat and moisture, increasing heat stress buildup while also creating mechanical resistance when covering the natural torso flexion point of the waist. 15.6 PATTERNING CONCEPT Pants garments shall be designed such that it reduces bunching of materials in the crotch. The legs shall be contoured to match the body and reduce working weight with knees designed to enable free and easy movement.
