Specifications include, but are not limited to: Contractor must provide on-site and/or Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services for Deaf or hard of hearing staff members in various situations and settings as requested by DSHS agency staff. Settings include but are not limited to DSHS offices, and DSHS contractor sites. Interpretation is defined as oral communication, either simultaneous or consecutive, between two or more parties who do not speak the same language. a) Interpreters provided by Contractor must be able to fluently and clearly interpret in both English and American Sign Language. b) Contractor must provide interpreters that have been screened using the following minimum requirements for hiring, certifying, and training: 1. The screening process for interpreters and the general minimum requirements shall contain experience, education, training, language proficiency and certification; 2. Certifications held by interpreters, including American Sign Language and Medical Certification, and certifications granted by the vendor or external organizations to Standard Interpreters; 3. Requirements for continuing education, including recertification for all types of interpreters; and 4. Training provided by Contractor to its interpreters, including plan to familiarize interpreters with DSHS-specific programs and/or terminology.
