Specifications include, but are not limited to: Reactivity. Aggregate, both coarse and fine, shall be free of substances that are deleteriously reactive with the alkalis in the cement in an amount sufficient to cause excessive expansion of the concrete. Acceptable aggregate shall be based on satisfactory evidence furnished by the Contractor that the aggregate is free from such materials. This evidence shall include service records of concrete of comparable properties under similar conditions of exposure and/or certified records of tests by a testing laboratory that meets the requirements of ASTM C 1077. Tests shall be made in accordance with ASTM C1260 or C1567. Only aggregates with acceptable results may be incorporated in the concrete. All aggregates, both coarse and fine, are subject to all tests defined herein. Fine aggregate shall be natural sand. Coarse aggregate shall be crushed limestone classified as size 57.
