Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Knoxville Police Department (KPD) seeks to establish a relationship with one or more kennels for the purchase of a minimum of one (1) pre-trained Special Operations Level Canine in the near term. • All dogs tested shall be European imports. • Breed of dog is limited to the following: German Shepherd, Dutch Shepherd, and Belgian Malinois, preference on Malinois. Dogs must be Dual Purpose candidates. Vendors are not required to imprint drug odors. Dogs must be suitable for deployment with the Knoxville Police Departments Special Operations Squad. Dogs must have a solid foundation in apprehension, building and area searches, and tracking. Dogs must be neutral to gun fire and other distractions devices. One week handler course required in order for KPD personnel to become familiar with dog. • Dogs tested shall be in the age range of 12 months to 36 months in age. • Dogs shall be covered by a minimum six-month workability guarantee. • Dogs shall be covered by a minimum one-year health guarantee. • Dogs which are deemed unsuitable for police use within the six month training period shall be replaced without cost to KPD or the City of Knoxville.
