Specifications include, but are not limited to: The South Dakota Department of Transportation’s Pavement Preservation Guide is 9 years old and loosely based on Illinois DOT guidelines. The document needs to be reviewed and updated to include the most recent techniques and materials available for pavement preservation. There is also a need for cost-benefit analysis that can be easily applied for decision making, especially by local agencies. The guide should be a useful document to all individuals involved in pavement management and preservation, from lead workers to program managers. Training is also an important component of an effective preservation system. SDDOT’s existing training programs and other technology transfer opportunities should be reviewed and modified as needed
