Specifications include, but are not limited to: The purpose of this RFP is to solicit proposals from qualified vendors to perform hazardous fuels reduction treatment on approximately 27.5 acres of property located near Hot Springs, SD, Township 7S Range 5E Section 27 for the South Dakota Department of Agriculture, Wildland Fire Division. THINNING SPECIFICATIONS • The desired treatment will include the thinning of ponderosa pine, cedar, and juniper up to 10” DBH to an average spacing of 25 feet between trees (trunks). To achieve the desired spacing and to promote forest health broken top, split top, and otherwise unhealthy trees, will be targeted first. • Treatment of spruce will result in scattered groups of 5 to 15 trees with approximately 25 feet of spacing between groups. • Stumps will be level cut flush to the ground. • All ponderosa pine 10 inches and under in diameter will be removed from, and within 25 feet of, stands of hardwood trees. Hardwood trees will not be cut unless they are a hazard or significantly damaged, or are dead. • Dead standing snags should be removed to an average of 1 per acre. • Ponderosa pine, spruce, cedar, and juniper will be limbed to a minimum of 6 feet, not to exceed 1/3rd of the total tree height. • Felled trees and limbs (thinning slash) as well as other previously downed material will be removed, chipped, or piled.
