Specifications include, but are not limited to: The work specified in this contract consists of the replacement of Portland cement concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and conversion of Florida type catch basin tops to Types 16, 17 or 18, in various locations in Richland County. This work shall consist of all materials, labor, equipment, tools, and incidentals necessary to perform the work specified in this contract. It shall also include the proper clean up and disposal of any materials. The contractor is expected to furnish their own traffic control that must conform to Part V of the South Carolina Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (as described below under Work Zone Traffic Control.) Each top shall require a minimum of 10 linear feet of sidewalk and curb and gutter on each side of the new catch basin retrofit. Exceptions can be made for adjacent ADA ramps and or structures as approved by an SCDOT Representative. All concrete shall conform to the requirements as specified. The removal of the existing top, sidewalk, curb and gutter, and throat shall be performed so as not to damage the existing catch basin brickwork, adjacent pavement edge, adjacent concrete or adjacent structures or property. If pavement must be removed to accommodate the new structure, it will be saw cut to provide an acceptable pavement edge. The amount of removal will be deemed as the amount necessary to successfully convert the catch basin and provide the proper drainage. The new catch basin top and throat shall be formed, graded, placed and finished in accordance with the attached Standard Drawings. All concrete associated with the conversion is to be Class 3000 concrete. Concrete shall be thoroughly consolidated against the faces of all forms and joints, including concrete previously constructed. The existing concrete shall be removed to the dimensions indicated by the SCDOT representative, with the face of the cut being straight and vertical. Areas to be removed will be indicated using pink paint. Concrete shall be formed, graded, placed, and finished in accordance with the attached Standard Drawings. Any expansion joint material damaged or removed during the concrete removal and grading process shall be replaced. The concrete used for replacement shall be an SCDOT approved Class 3000 Portland Cement Concrete mix from an SCDOT certified concrete plant. All sidewalks shall be 4" in depth unless otherwise specified and shall match the existing sidewalk in width. Concrete shall be thoroughly consolidated against the faces of all forms and joints, including concrete previously constructed, by means of vibrators inserted in the concrete. Finishing of concrete shall be performed so as to produce a smooth finish. After concrete begins to set, a brush finish shall be applied. Immediately after finishing operations are complete, the concrete shall be cured with an approved curing compound or by other methods approved by the SCDOT representative. Pre-cast lids are preferred however specifications must be supplied prior to their use.
