A. The successful Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, materials, chemicals, and traffic control devices to perform drainage ditch, bridge and culvert herbicide application for locations throughout DeSoto County for an initial ONE (1) year period with the possibility of FOUR (4) one-year renewal options upon mutual consent of the County and Contractor. See Attachments for the list of locations. B. The following areas are to be treated: • Ditches o Contractor shall herbicide the bottom and sides of the ditches for the limits specified. • Bridges o Contractor shall herbicide the roadway and guardrails from the furthest extent of the longest guardrail in each direction; o Contractor shall herbicide 50-feet from the approach slab from the edge of roadway/bridge to the right-of-way line in both directions; o Contractor shall herbicide the slopes around the abutments on each side of the bridge from the bridge to the right-of-way line stopping at the waterline line if encountered within the right-of-way; and, o Contractor shall herbicide all areas with the channel under the bridge which are above the water from right-of-way line to right-of-way line. • Culverts o Contractor shall herbicide around all guardrails (if any); o Contractor shall herbicide around all headwalls (if any); and, o Contractor shall herbicide the channel on the upstream and downstream ends of the culvert to the right of way line including the side slopes and bottoms of the channels. C. In the absence of a defined right-of-way line, the top of the bank of the ditch shall prevail. D. If there are privately owned walls, fences, or other accessory items bordering within the areas to receive herbicide application, the Contractor shall notify to the County and the County shall make a determination of where the fenced area is County property and requires herbicide application. E. The successful Contractor shall be responsible for providing traffic control during any application. The Contractor shall comply with standards specified in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (current edition) and Florida Department of Transportation’s Design Standards (current edition). F. It is the desire of the County that the Contractor will apply chemicals to kill the vegetation of the ditch bottom. Vegetation on the banks of the ditches shall be stunted, but not killed as to limit the likelihood of erosion problems are created. G. The County has preliminarily set the anticipated schedule for application. Herbicide application is set to be once in each of the following months: May July and September. The County reserves the right to change the schedule and revise as necessary to achieve the best results possible. NOTE: The County suggests that bidders carefully inspect the locations to be treated before submitting their quotes. Unless otherwise stated, all specifications listed are minimum requirements. 2. SCHEDULE OF WORK: A. All designated areas defined in the “Scope of Work” shall receive herbicidal spray application within the month listed above or as defined by the County. B. The date for application shall be determined by joint agreement with the County and Contractor. C. Spot treatments shall be performed within fifteen (15) calendar days following each of the primary treatments when necessary to secure an effective kill of plants. D. Spray schedule will be submitted and approved by the County. The schedule for application is dependent on the weather conditions and on the growing season. Final confirmation of the schedule will be given by the Engineering Department with a minimum two (2) days notice. NOTE: The County reserves the right to alter or eliminate any of the cycle treatments of spraying because of weather, growing conditions or separate construction or maintenance.
