Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.1 This specification outlines the requirements to provide the services needed to perform the testing of rail for internal flaws with ultrasonic testing equipment capable of recording the inspection results for future analysis. Testing is to be performed on the following (including crossovers): 1.1.1 Zone 1: Main Line from South Hills Village Yard Limit to Allegheny Station. This includes three pocket tracks with associated crossovers (Approximately 12.4 miles of double track). 1.1.2 Zone 2: Library Line from Washington Junction to Library End of Line Station Bumping Posts (Approximately 5.0 miles of double track). 1.1.3 Zone 3: Arlington Line from South Hills Junction to the Panhandle Bridge including Arlington turnback (Approximately 1.8 miles of double track). 1.1.4 Zone 4: Overbrook Line from Castle Shannon Junction to South Hills Junction (Approximately 5.0 miles of double track) 1.1.5 Zone 5: South Hills Village Outer Maintenance Loop from yard limit around the Car Storage Maintenance Area (CSMA) Building (Approximately 1.1 miles of single track). 1.2 Each defect discovered using the chosen flaw detection method (mounted on a hi-rail vehicle or portable walking stick) will be hand tested to verify the type and size of the defect. 1.3 Contractor shall provide services for emergency inspections on an as-needed, on-call basis. 1.4 All aspects of the inspection described herein shall conform to the requirements outlined in AREMA – Manual for Railway Engineering, Chapter 4, Part 4. 1.5 Where walking sticks are utilized, recorded inspection data shall be reviewed for flaw detection and data quality at completion of each inspection session (daily shift) to reduce the possibility of oversights in the real time analysis due to field conditions. Flaws or inadequate data quality discovered during these end of inspection session reviews shall be reinspected prior to project completion to insure 100% completeness. 1.6 In addition to the on-site inspection, the recorded inspection data shall be sent to the Contractor’s office daily for a separate independent analysis by an ASNT-SNT-TC-1A UT - Level II technician other than the field technician. Any additional findings shall be reported to the Authority immediately, field verified, and shall be included in the final report.
