Specifications include, but are not limited to:Unless specified otherwise, words, phrases, abbreviations and/or acronyms have the following meanings: ▪ Board – The City of Philadelphia Board of Pensions and Retirement. ▪ City – The City of Philadelphia. ▪ Co-Medical Director – A medical panel physician who receives referrals of disability cases from the Board, refers said cases to one of the Medical Panel Specialists, receives the Medical Panel Specialists completed report, and submits a final report to the Board. ▪ Disability Applicant – A former employee of the City of Philadelphia who has applied to the Board of Pensions and Retirement for a disability pension benefit. ▪ Disability Pension Benefit – A pension benefit granted by the Board to a former employee due to that former employee’s suffering from a permanent disability while in the employ of the City. ▪ IME – An Independent Medical Examination performed by a physician on the Board’s Medical Panel. ▪ IME Specialist – A medical panel physician who receives referrals of disability cases from a CoMedical Director and submits a report of findings back to the referring Co-Medical Director. ▪ Medical Panel – Independent physicians under contract to the Board who perform medical examinations on referred Disability Applicants and submit a report of their findings. The Medical Panel consists of Co-Medical Directors and Specialists. ▪ Ordinary Disability/Non-Service Connected Disability – A disability that results not due solely from the performance of one’s job duties. ▪ Service Connected Disability – A disability that results due solely from the performance of one’s job duties. ▪ Written Report – A report detailing the IME and including a medical opinion as to whether or not a permanent disability exists and if so, if it resulted solely from the performance of the Disability Applicant’s job duties.
