Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Eugene Municipal Mental Health Court diverts eligible participants with a severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) from the traditional criminal justice system and provides them support and rehabilitation through comprehensive mental health and co-occurring disorder treatment. The Court’s goals are to increase public safety by treating mental health issues and reduce contacts with the criminal justice system, hospital emergency departments, acute care, and in-patient treatment, and improve the quality of life of participants by helping them improve treatment outcomes. The program objectives are to ensure participants receive evidence-based and data-driven services and are provided with a full range of ancillary services to break down barriers and achieve wellness and long-term recovery. The Mental Health Court is operated by a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that has agreed to provide an alternative to traditional criminal justice system case processing with appropriate mental health treatment.
