Specifications include, but are not limited to: The restoration thinning (tree release & weed) outlined in this ITB will take place within commercially thinned units (Sweeter Units 3, 4,& 6) located approximately 10 to 12miles from Butte Falls Oregon, along USFS 37(Unit 3)and 3700300(Units 4 & 6)Roads. Both sites can be accessed from Butte Falls/Fish Lake Hwy (37 Rd between MM 25 & 26, & 3700300Rdbetween MM 27 & 28). Elevations in the units range between 3200and 4200 feet. Restoration thinning(tree release & weed)within the Sweeter Units averages between a level 2 and level 3 cut (151 to 450 stems/acre) of suppressed co-dominate conifers/hardwoods, conifer re-prod, hardwood re-sprout, and woody brush species. The tree release and weed operation involves cutting, lopping, and scattering of understory vegetation to reduce understory density/competition, and help restore historical stand structure with legacy tree features. Removing understory fuels within the Units will reduce fuel loadings, lessening the probability of high severity fire, while providing options for future management activities including prescribed/broadcast burning.
