Specifications include, but are not limited to: Although it is the policy of the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) to place youth released on parole status in the parental home or with relatives, a number of youth require residential services. Among other things, these youth are going through difficult periods at home. These difficulties range from parent's lack of employment, family eviction/ hospitalization and severe economic hardships, to family abandonment, severe parental substance abuse, physically and sexually abusive family members, and victims or perpetrators residing in the home. This type of placement is also considered when it becomes necessary to find a placement for youth on an emergency basis. These are placements necessitated when a family crisis develops or a youth's removal from his placement is mandatory to provide safety for him or others. With a group home placement, the Department seeks to meet the individual needs of the youth by providing a structured setting where the home will function as surrogate parents. Services are to be provided through two (2) Regional offices: Northern Region with District Offices in Toledo, Cleveland and Akron and Southern Region with District Offices in Dayton and Columbus. An attached listing shows the breakout of counties by Region/Office.
