Specifications include, but are not limited to: Independent Medical Examinations and Psychiatric Examination Services The vendor or its approved subcontractor will facilitate the examination. This includes verifying each examiner’s credentials. The vendor or its approved subcontractor will select an examiner based on the medical specialty requested and geographic locale. The vendor or its approved subcontractor will schedule the examination and advise the Applicant or Recipient of the appointment details. The vendor or its approved subcontractor will also provide the examiner the necessary medical documentation, job description, and specific instructions regarding the scope of the examination. The supporting documentation and instructions shall be provided to the examiner at least one business day before the examination date. The examiner’s report should be received within a time frame agreed upon between OPERS and the vendor. The examination and the vendor or its approved subcontractor shall conduct an initial quality assurance review of the report. Reviews and Recommendation ServicesMember applies by completing and submitting a paper application, a physician statement (s), and supporting medical records if available. Next, the member’s employer completes and provides a paper Report of Employer form along with a job description. Once these documents have been received, OPERS uses an (SFTP) secured file transfer protocol site to electronically send the documents to the vendor for review and recommendation. A demographic data file is also sent with member contact and OPERS specific information. Rehabilitative Services In 2013, OPERS implemented a new plan provision with clinical and vocational rehabilitative components. This plan provision is designed to establish a collaborative approach that assures benefit recipients undergo appropriate Continued Medical Treatment, consistent with professional standards of care, to assist them in improving their disabling and co-morbid condition(s). Frequent contact with the participants and their medical providers is a vital part of this collaborative approach. The goal of the Rehabilitative Services Program is to maximize a recipient’s employability through clinical and vocational rehabilitative services.
