Specifications include, but are not limited to:installed radiation monitoring devices (in 2013) at the landfill and transfer stations used by the City of Columbus Refuse Division. After the monitors were activated, all vehicles hauling refuse into the landfill or a transfer station will pass through the monitors. Any vehicle that trips the monitors (after it is determined that the driver is not tripping the monitor) will be quarantined and not allowed to dump the load. The vehicle owner will be responsible for removing the vehicle from SWACO property, determining what tripped the monitor removing it from the load, and safely disposing of the radioactive material. The City of Columbus Refuse Division only handles residential household waste. Non-residential locations must contract with a private supplier for their waste removal.
