Specifications include, but are not limited to: Switch Rail Grinding shall be performed on every turnout in all thirteen PATCO interlockings and the Camden Yard. All turnouts and open track portions of each interlocking will be ground with on rail switch profile grinding equipment. Portions of the turnout where the grinding equipment cannot grind will receive grinding by a combination of a hand held wheel barrel grinder, stock rail grinder and a profile surface grinder to remove steel overflow, surface imperfections and to grind the rail head and switch point areas. The Contractor is responsible to observe the physical condition of the rail in advance of Switch Grinding to determine the number of grinding passes that will be required to transition profile the rail head and to locate the wheel rail contact band in the center portion of the rail head.
