Specifications include, but are not limited to: The intent of this specification is to describe the New Hampshire Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Turnpikes minimum requirements for a portable, all weather, self-contained, trailer-mounted arrow board that will be used to display left arrows, right arrows and caution bars in work zones. The unit shall comply with the requirements for Type C Arrow Boards as outlined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The unit shall be delivered fully operational to the Bureau of Turnpikes at 36 Hackett Hill Road in Hooksett, NH. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS • The unit shall be capable of being visible and easily understood at a distance of one mile. • Unit shall be capable of continuous operation in the single arrow mode for 30 days without sun at 100 percent initial battery charge. • The solar panel shall be aligned for maximum charging capabilities whether in operating or travel position. • The controller shall constantly track ambient light conditions to provide maximum system efficiency. • Batteries shall be protected from deep discharge by a solid state, low voltage disconnect. • The bottom edge of the sign panel shall be a minimum of seven feet above the road surface when in the operating position. DISPLAY MODES The unit shall be capable of displaying the following modes: • Left and right flashing arrows • Double flashing arrow • Left and right sequential stem arrows • Straight caution bar • Four corner caution mode • Left and right sequential arrow • Left and right sequential chevron SIGN PANEL • The sign panel shall be sandwich type with (25) twenty-five lamps mounted on the sign face. • The lamps shall be par 46 (5” diameter) L.E.D. with a minimum beam spread of 24 degrees horizontal and 8 degrees vertical. • Each lamp shall contain a minimum of 24 high intensity, 590 NM amber L.E.D’s. • The lamps shall be secured to the sign panel face by lamp hoods/visors via (4) four stainless steel screws, threaded into insertion nuts. Sheet metal screws will not be acceptable. • The hoods shall be of high impact, UV protected, non-reflective, black plastic. • Each hood shall have (4) four “keyhole” indexing mounting holes. • The back panel shall incorporate (2) two, 2” diameter, L.E.D. indicator lamps to denote mode of operation. • The exterior of the sign panel face and back shall be acid etched and finished with flat black powder coat.
