Specifications include, but are not limited to: 2.1.1. Listen to a person’s words, inflections and intent and simultaneously render them into accurate visual language of signs using the mode of communication preferred by the deaf consumer. 2.1.2. Comprehend the signs, inflections and intent of the deaf consumer and simultaneously articulate them into spoken English. 2.1.3. Adapt to a broad range of consumer preferences for interpretation and be able to function in a multicultural environment. 2.1.4. Be able to integrate and comprehend complex terms and concepts used in higher education environments. 2.1.5. Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. 2.1.6. Facilitate communication through the use of sign language and spoken English within academic and social settings including class instruction, lectures, discussions, supervised practicums, direct overheard conversations, study groups and field trips. 2.1.7. Team interpret, as determined by CSN Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department, generally for demanding service in excess of one (1) hour in duration, to maintain the interpreter’s physical safety and/or ensure fluent interpretation with minimal errors. 2.1.8. Prepare for demanding course material by reading course materials and learning frequently used vocabulary, as needed. 2.1.9. Maintain professional memberships and certifications in this field. 2.1.10. Adhere to the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
