Specifications include, but are not limited to: In the context of Urban and Regional Planning, Community and Local Economic Development, and Public Policy, lack of sustainability is very often attributed to planning practices and development policies which have resulted in urban environments that are fragmented, separated by uses, lack cohesion, and are overly automobile-dependent. The main purpose of this program is to allow students to experience and observe the application of alternative planning practices in the framework of urban large and small cities and towns as well as rural and island communities mainly in Greece and in Italy (Rome, Vatican City, and Pompeii). The international traveling component of the class will greatly reinforce its theoretical / instructional element and it will allow students to experience Greek and Italian life and culture.
