Specifications include, but are not limited to: 2. INITIAL INSPECTION. 2.1 Casing inspection must be made by a trained, certified operator. The inspection shall include placing the tire on a mechanical spreader under adequate lighting (usually considered adequate at 300 ft. candles), and distortion of the natural contour sufficient for visual inspection. 3. BUFFING. 3.1 The buffed casing shall be buffed to dimensions compatible to the retread system used. The worn tread surface shall be removed to a symmetrical profile in accordance with procedure specifications. The buffed area of the casing shall be free of contamination and oxidation. All buffing shall be done on an inflated buffer. 3.2 Tread surface preparation involving skives down to the underlying cord fabric will be treated in the conventional manner, per the American Retreaders Association. 3.3 Exposed steel cables will be cut back to surrounding rubber. Any buzzouts in bias ply truck tires exceeding 25% of actual body plies must be reinforced with a proper size repair unit. 4. PRECURE RETREADING. 4.1 The casings utilizing procured tread shall be buffed to the width that is appropriate to the fixed dimensions of the procured treat rubber specified.
