Specifications include, but are not limited to: The main focus of this project is the economical replacement of the aging HVAC system, as it has become unreliable and spare parts are no longer manufactured and are difficult to find. All components of the HVAC system will be reviewed and replaced as deemed necessary. Air conditioning is to be added to the kitchen and gym areas if budget allows these upgrades. The new systems will be designed to improve maintenance access wherever possible. The new systems are to meet all code requirements and increase energy efficiency whenever possible, however, a strict focus on a simple, straightforward, low first cost design is preferred. ROOF DESIGN This project is intended to replace the existing roofing system at Smithsburg High School. The 111,623 gross square foot, 4-ply roofing system was installed in 1996. The 4 –ply roofing system currently has an approximate 1/8" per foot slope. This design will replace the existing roof with a new single ply (TPO) assembly that meets the minimum code requirements (R-value, 1/4” per foot slope, etc.). Maintenance and Facilities staff believe that the 1/4" per foot slope requirement can be met via the use of tapered insulation on the existing flat roof. The above quantities are estimates only. Architect/Engineer is to verify actual square footage of roof.
